Sheikh Gumi Questions Why Tinubu Officials Haven’t Visited Boko Haram, Bandits for Peace Talks

Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has questioned why no official of the President Bola Tinubu administration has visited Boko Haram or bandit groups for peace talks, unlike the approach adopted by former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo towards Niger Delta militants.

Gumi noted that previous governments engaged militant groups in the Niger Delta through dialogue and visits as part of efforts to restore peace in the region. He expressed concern that a similar strategy has not been extended to armed groups operating in the North.

The cleric’s remarks have reignited debate over the government’s approach to resolving insecurity through negotiation versus military action.
