At least 30 people have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack on Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday night, claimed the lives of women and children and left several houses burnt, plunging the community into mourning.
Community sources confirmed the incident, with residents indicating that at least 30 bodies have so far been recovered. Fears remain that the death toll could rise as search and recovery efforts continue.
Photographs from the affected community show widespread destruction, with several residential buildings reduced to ashes.
The number of people injured or displaced has not yet been confirmed as details continue to emerge.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in Kauru Local Government Area and other vulnerable communities across Southern Kaduna.
Residents and community leaders have called on the Kaduna State Government, the Federal Government, and security agencies to urgently deploy additional personnel to the area and take decisive steps to prevent further attacks.
The incident comes amid a wave of deadly violence and kidnappings across Southern Kaduna.
On Friday, it was reported that at least eight people linked to two groups of hostages abducted from Ariko and Awon villages in Kachia Local Government Area had died in captivity.
According to reports, seven of the victims were among residents abducted from Ariko village, while the eighth was a newborn delivered by a woman kidnapped from neighbouring Awon village.
The victims were said to have died after spending more than three months in captivity under harsh conditions, further underscoring the severe insecurity confronting communities in Southern Kaduna.
