Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Mr. Peter Obi, hosted the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Egloff, for a productive bilateral discussion focused on strengthening Nigeria-Switzerland development cooperation.
During the meeting, Obi emphasised the need for deeper partnerships, particularly in the education sector, which he described as critical to Nigeria’s long-term growth and human capital development.
Obi highlighted Switzerland’s renowned expertise in vocational training, skills development, innovation, and quality education as areas where Nigeria could benefit significantly. He called for enhanced collaboration in technical education, teacher training, and youth empowerment programmes to address Nigeria’s skills gap and high rate of youth unemployment.
The former presidential candidate stressed that strategic partnerships with countries like Switzerland could help Nigeria build a more competitive workforce and foster sustainable economic growth. He advocated for increased investment in education infrastructure, curriculum reform, and knowledge exchange initiatives.
Ambassador Egloff reportedly welcomed Obi’s proposals, noting Switzerland’s commitment to supporting human development and institutional capacity building in Nigeria. The discussions also touched on broader areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, and good governance.
Obi has consistently advocated for prioritising education and human capital development as the foundation for Nigeria’s progress. He argued that robust international partnerships are essential to tackling challenges such as out-of-school children, poor learning outcomes, and inadequate skills training.
